August 8, 2011 – EMBR Group and Cloud9 Fabrics, Inc. are pleased to announce their licensing partnership. Ed Emberley’s instantly recognizable and whimsical imagery will be brought to life on fabric in 100% certified organic cotton by Cloud9 Fabrics beginning in Spring '12.
Ed Emberley is a celebrated author and illustrator and the winner of two Caldecott awards. He has over 70 titles to his credit. The collaboration with Cloud9 Fabrics starts with Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals, his first learn-to-draw book originally published in 1970 and still going strong today. Within these adored pages, Ed Emberley has taught generations, young and the not-so-young, that "if you can draw shapes, letters, numbers and things" you can draw all sorts of animals from squiggly pollywogs to fantastical dragons. His inspirational approach to creativity and the universal appeal of his quintessential style coupled with the tactile world of fabrics will no doubt translate into myriads of sewing projects thereby igniting a whole new level of imagination. Children and adults are sure to delight in the fabrics that feature Ed's beloved characters.
Cloud9 Fabrics' Design Director, Michelle Engel Bencsko recalls, "I have vivid memories of being a young girl, sitting on the rug in my room with my imagination flowing; paper and colored pencils scattered about. I poured over the pages of Ed Emberley's Drawing Book of Animals deciding which to draw first. I'd painstakingly follow Ed’s directions and beam with pride at the delightful menagerie I had created. Today, my 10 year old son follows in my steps and is genuinely excited that his mom is working so closely with the legendary Ed Emberley and his daughter Rebecca."
"The Emberley's are thrilled to be teaming up with Cloud9 Fabrics. They echo our commitment to high quality products, which makes the partnership of Cloud9 organic cottons and Ed Emberley children's book art simply perfect. We love working in many mediums, this adds a another dimension to our work. We look forward to the new collections and hope it inspires fans of Ed's, new and old, to create and then, create some more." Rebecca Emberley
