The BFGB? What's that, you ask? It's the Best Friend's Gift Bag! What could be a more perfect gift for your best girl buddy? A soothing eye pillow, a weighty neck pillow and a comfy pair of slippers, all rolled up into one delightful little bag. So easy to make- this whole project took me a few hours of total dedication. Makes a great gift for a hostess, new mom, grandmom, or YOU. I know I am going to have a hard time passing this on to someone else now that it's made.
Everything here is made from Forest Friends Flannel. There's Sunny Bunny in Shell, G'nite Owls in Shell, Crumbs in Earth and Shell solid. I used vintage ric rak (total score that it matched!) and some ribbon.
The eye pillow measures 3 x 8 finished. I started with two 3.5 x 8.5 cuts fabrics and sewed them together as detailed out in this tutorial I did for sachets a while ago. It's filled with a blend of flax seeds and lavender for a truly relaxing experience.
The Neck Pillow is a free pattern I picked up from carewear.org. I like what they're doing on this site- check it out (my grandmother is an avid knitter of beanie hats for newborns and preemies). I modified the pattern slightly by adding a 1/16" topstitch around the edge. I did this mainly so I could sew it up with my machine, but also because it requires just a little less filling. I used a blend of flax seed and lavender instead of the called-for polyfill. This is ideal for the soothing weight and aroma that really helps one relax. When working with the botanical fillings, it's not necessary to "stuff" the pillow. You want a little play in it so it drapes and sags around your shoulders. Round rices or buckwheat hulls would also be good. Maybe a cinnamon and cloves blend, too... Pop it in the microwave oven for a minute or two to warm it up for extra TLC.
The Slipper is another free pattern from The Creative Maven- which she just posted not too long ago and I thank her for her great timing! I'm a little ric rak challenged, but I think my vintage stash of pinky goodness was put to good use here. They are just so darned cute ON.
The Sack is something I whipped up, but I managed to sketch out some simple directions.
More Forest Friends Flannel projects to come soon! Our friend Jaclyn is stitching up some more cuteness for us... can't wait to see what she makes!
Hello and these are so adorable. Do the browns and the corals match the colours used in the Beyond the Sea line?
